Ballybunion Golf Course

Ballybunion Golf Club
Sandhill Road, Ballybunion, County Limerick Ireland

Ballybunion Golf Club actually boasts two separate courses:
18 holes 6542 yards Par 71 - Old Course
18 holes 6477 yards Par 72 - Cashen Course

The undisputed king of all is the Old course, and is regarded as the ultimate test in links golf. No golf course could be closer to the sea. The sheer size of the spectacular dunes is totally intimidating and when the wind blows in from the Atlantic, this is no course for the faint hearted. The Old Course, is consistently ranked as one of the world's top ten courses. The Cashen Course is nearly as impressive and arguably as tough. Together with its succession of formidable par five's and breathtaking beauty, it amply qualifies as one of the world's masterpieces

The par 4 17th at Ballybunion is just one of the many spectacular holes on this course. From tee to green the hole requires accurate placement and good distance. The exposed green, with winds from the sea, means that careful allowance must be given for the prevailing conditions. A par is a good score and sets you up for the final hole

There can hardly be a golfing shrine where nature was a greater golfing collaborator than at both the Ballybunion courses. God-given terrain is how Trent Jones attributes the success of the 328-yards par four 10th, and the spectacular siting for the green at the 387-yards par four 13th, on his beloved New course. He might have passed similar judgment on the strength of the par five's, a collection of the best to be played anywhere in the world

When Tom Watson states that `Ballybunion offers some of the most demanding shots into the greens of any course,' he surely underlines the nature of the 8th hole of only 155 yards (one of five par threes), or the much-acclaimed, and his personal favourite, 446-yards par-four 11th, perched right on the seaside clifftop, and tumbling down throughout the dunes like a staircase.

Ballybunion Golf Course has a pro shop, driving range, and a caddy service. It also has a fine clubhouse, and excellent bar and restaurant facilities
